With over 7 million procedures performed just last year, BOTOX is the number 1 minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. It safe, reliable, and in the hands of an experienced practitioner, which can result in a naturally refreshed appearance.
What is Botox
BOTOX is in a category of injectables called neuromodulators. It is made from a purified toxin that is naturally produced by the bacteria clostridium botulinum. This produces a product called neurotoxins. Neurotoxins work by temporarily blocking the signals between nerves and muscles. When a neurotoxin such as Azzalure or Botox is injected into the muscles of facial expressions, these muscles are temporarily relaxed. This helps smooth out the dynamic wrinkles that are caused by repeated muscle contractions and can also help improve some superficial static lines as well.

What happens during an appointment for Botox
Your chosen health professional will begin with taking a thorough and detailed medical history during a face-to-face consultation, this is a legal requirement in the UK so if this does not happen you should be concerned about the reliability of the practitioner. During your consultation, your injector will discuss your specific concerns and goals and ensure that this treatment suitable for your needs but most importantly – safe for you.
Photographs will be taken so you’re able to see the changes in your treatment. Your practitioner will clean your skin before marking up the areas to be injected. You will be asked to create facial expressions to ensure the correct placement of the neurotoxin.
The procedure is then completed and usually takes between 5 and 10 minutes.
The most popular area of use for BOTOX is the face. By relaxing different facial muscles – from the forehead to the neck – wrinkles can be minimised, resulting in the smoothing of the overlying skin.
Following treatment with Botulinum Toxin (Azzalure or Botox), there is an initial period of a few days where you see no results. After 5-7 days you will notice a reduction in movement and a relaxation of the dynamic lines – we like to call this the Hallelujah moment! you will be asked to attend a review appointment 2 weeks after your initial treatment where if you need an adjustment this will be done- there are no additional charges for this.
The results from treatments with botulism toxin are temporary. The longevity of the treatment is normally is 3-5 months, after this time you will regain normal muscle function and fine lines and wrinkles will reappear. To help maintain the results and prevent further development of lines and wrinkles we recommend scheduling regular follow-up appointments.
Can botox be used for excessive sweating?
Hyperhidrosis is the medical name for excessive sweating. Most commonly, it affects the underarms but it can also affect other areas of the body. It is a cause of a great deal of embarrassment for sufferers and has an impact on many areas of their daily lives.
Neurotoxins can be used to block the chemical signals sent by nerves to stimulate the sweat glands. If the sweat glands do not receive these signals, they will not produce moisture. You can expect your results to take about 1 week to fully develop last between 6 months to a year
The needles used for Botox injections are very thin, so most patients experience only a brief twinge of mild discomfort. Pain is almost nonexistent when treated by an experienced health professional. We can also offer numbing cream if you are very concerned, this can take up to 30 minutes to work so please arrive early if you feel you need this.
What are the alternatives to Botox
In the UK only Nucevia Azzalure, Boccature, and Allergan Botox are licenses for facial aesthetics, all these neuromodulators are derived from botulinum type A. There are a few unlicensed products such as Fraxin which is painful when injected and gives unreliable results.
Alternatives treatments that also can help improve deeper lines and wrinkles include, injectable dermal fillers, laser resurfacing, radiofrequency such as the Endymed, and chemical peels, However, these procedures have much more downtime and higher risks of side effects. Botox is excellent are preventing further aging.
